Welcome to the University of Plymouth Netball Club! Recently voted Club of the Year 2010/11 and Highly Commended for Most Improved Club!!
Over the past few years, the netball club has increased in numbers and standard of play. It is important to recruit new and upcoming players to ensure we continue and build on our current successes. However, if you are someone who just enjoys playing the game or a complete beginner looking to try something new, there is a place for you within our club.
We currently have four teams competing in a local league, Plymouth and District Netball League, all playing at a good standard. We currently have been promoted in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) league into Western 2A having been undefeated this season. However, we were unsuccessful in reaching the finals of the Cup by only just losing in the Semi-Finals to Bath. Aside from the highly competitive teams, we have a number of teams known as the ‘Gems’ where girls are able to play in weekly matches against each other.
Of course, how could I leave out the socials! Where do I even start?! UPNC is highly renowned for its buzzing and lively atmosphere resulting in the club being one, if not the most popular sports club in the University. Let’s just say we know how to have a drink or two……or three…..
Our socials happen on a regular basis on Wednesday nights in which we pay a visit to our local sponsors, The Joint, and then on to Walkabout before hitting the infamous C103s. Majority of these socials are themed, from chavs to charity shop challenge.
This year the club will be looking to build on last season in a number of aspects. Continually increasing the standard of netball played by everyone, showing support for Charities, volunteering in our local area and of course, once again dominating Marjons at Varsity!
One of the big highlights for the club is the tour which is arranged each year. A whole week of UPNC drunken antics that is not to be missed out on!
On behalf of myself and the committee, welcome to the club. We look forward to welcoming new members, returning members and to a good season both on and off the court!
Sincerely,
Emily Hammick
Chair
